If you watch them run its very jerky, starting and stopping every few yards. They also run into trees for a few minutes until they make it around. A lot of times too I see them run past mobs that you can see, but that aren't in their little route. These mechanical bot people I have no problem killing a few times for a good laugh, however sometimes I actually just have them help me farm the item I was there for I have a friend who runs in this fashion. She's on dial up. I often help others even if it means I'm not getting the kills. (Even alliance, shh, don't tell my guild! ) so I might come across as a farmer for killing mobs someone else tagged. If I get a PM "wut r u doin?" I ignore it. Course if someone says "what are you doing?" I'll most often respond, but not always. My point was that once you make an exception for the "no camping" rule, then those who are less than scrupulous will use that and expand on it "oops, thought he was a bot... oh well. ED RP Project says it's ok! hehe".

You know, it's really sad when someone with such a wealth of computer smarts goes and creates such a hack. There is a program out there for download that you can use, which levels your character... all day, as you sit back and do nothing but drink, and watch cartoons on the Disney channel (( cause only whimps who don't want to poor their hearts into their characters watch mindless programming all day and play with dolls. =>.<= ). These people make me angry, deserved to be beaten into a bloody pulp, and made absolutely miserable until you lag the bot out and cause it to implode upon itself. Which doesn't sound like a bad idea.
Aie, I'll do my best to keep an eye out for them, perhaps we can lag the bot on the other end out so much, it can't auto-level anymore to save it's life. Bot-hunting'll be fun! =^_^=
Funny thing is... Farmers tag me as a farmer. =;_;= I often get tells when I'm grinding mobs that say "ni hao", obviously expecting me to chime back in their foriegn tounge, wave and beat up stuff with them. Aie, do I look farmer-worthy? Or am I just a target for pestering? Hee, but I suffer the same lag issue your friend does, and I adore it when people assist me... especially when I'm stuck in battle-stance on my screen, appearing like I'm not doing a darn thing!

I always ask repeatedly...and I also have horrible lag problems, so I'm not going to report someone for running into a tree...I likely am/have been doing the same.
However, bots are fairly easy to check for.
1. They don't respond to REPEATED whispers, comments in /say, emotes, pokes, or prods. I phrase my whispers several different ways. "Are you okay," "Do you need help," etc. I don't care how they respond, what language they respond in, if they curse at me and call me stupid, as long as they respond.
2. They don't use special skills, just pet-attack (usually charge/dash, the better to steal kills with), auto-attack or auto-shoot, then run to corpse and try to loot (if it was already tagged and they can't loot it, they just stand on top of it). This gets especially annoying when whatever it is attacks something you've just cursed before the first damage ticks and tags the target.
It's VERY clear when the avatar is being run by some sort of AI instead of an actual person if you watch them and fight in the same area with them for a while.
But, you know what, I meant this list as a way to police role-play amongst ourselves, to make life difficult for the griefers and bullies who ruin RP. The bots I'd rather leave in the hands of the GMs. They seem to be more willing to help with them than with RP issues.
I ask the mods to delete this list/post altogether, as I was the one to come up with it and it apparently gives so many people discomfort.

I know bots are easy to spot, what I'm saying is that others... who are not as scrupulous as you or me, may use an exception such as "no camping, except for bots" as an EXCUSE to camp others saying "well, oops, I thought they were a bot". That's why it's so important to not have exceptions to such an important rule. "The EDRP Project said it's ok to camp bots, I thought you were a bot... tee-hee, sorry about the last four hours... guess I didn't see your whispers!"

And thankfully, after my edits to the post, that's no longer an issue.

~~ I have no problem camping people who are buttholes. If someone pops out and kills me when i'm at 5% health, I make sure to find him and kill him about 3 times. Or if there's someone ganking lowbies in Raven Hill and the ganker happens to be, like, 50+. He too gets a few deaths until he runs away, brings friends, or it starts to waste too much of my time. Camping has it's places. ~~

Killing lowbies and killing someone at 5% health are excusable in character. Killing someone over and over has no RP benefit and is just being mean.
Not all *characters* have to be honourable (ie attacking someone almost dead or attacking "civilians" in the form of lower level players), but all *players* should be, at the very least, civil... which includes not being a thingy to the person behind the keyboard.
If you get ganked at 5% life, take your revenge and move on. Or roll on a PvE server, I mean come on... PvP happened?
